2.1 Account data (Users/Businesses)
Name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), account role (User/Business), and account settings.
2.2 Listing data (Businesses)
Business name, location/area served, contact details shown on listings (e.g., phone/email/website/social links), categories, description, images, opening hours, and any other information you choose to publish.
2.3 Communications
Messages you send us via forms/email and any support queries.
2.4 Technical and usage data
IP address, device and browser information, pages visited, timestamps, referring pages, and approximate location derived from IP.
2.5 Newsletter subscription data
Email address (and optionally name), subscription preferences, and verification status (see “double opt-in” below).
2.6 Payment data (only if paid plans are introduced)
We do not store full card details. Payments would be handled by a payment provider (e.g., Stripe/PayPal). We may receive transaction IDs, billing name, and payment status.
3. How we use your data
We use personal data to:
- create and administer accounts and listings;
- display listings on the directory and enable Visitors/Users to contact Businesses directly;
- respond to enquiries and provide customer support;
- moderate content and enforce our Terms;
- operate, secure, and improve the Site (including analytics);
- send service emails (e.g., account/admin messages);
- send marketing emails/newsletters where permitted (see Section 6).
4. Lawful bases for processing (UK GDPR)
We rely on:
- Contract: to provide accounts, listings, and any paid services you request.
- Legitimate interests: to operate the directory, prevent fraud/misuse, maintain security, moderate content, and improve the Site (balanced against your rights).
- Consent: for non-essential cookies/trackers (e.g., analytics/advertising) and for marketing where required.
- Legal obligation: e.g., record-keeping for tax/accounting (if applicable).
5. Cookies, analytics and advertising pixels
5.1 Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for:

5.2 Google Analytics

5.3 Meta Pixel We use the Meta Pixel to measure advertising performance and build audiences for ads. Meta Pixel cookies are treated as non-essential and are only set if you consent via the cookie banner/settings.

6.1. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we may use double opt-in (we send an email asking you to confirm your subscription).
6.2. We send newsletters/marketing only where permitted under applicable law (for example, where you have opted in, or where another lawful basis applies).
6.3. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting hello@chasingyourtail.co.uk. Service/administrative emails (for example, account notices) are not marketing and may be sent where necessary to provide the service.

We do not sell your personal data.
8. WordPress and plugins

- Listing data: while live, then 12 months after removal
- Support: 24 months
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe, then 30 days (or kept on a suppression list to ensure you stay unsubscribed)
- Payments (if applicable): 6 years

You have rights to:
- access your data;
- correct inaccurate data;
- request deletion (where applicable);
- restrict processing;
- object to processing (especially marketing and certain legitimate interests);
- data portability (where applicable);
- withdraw consent (where processing is based on consent).
